God Moment: The Sermon That Was Preached Just For Me

GYC 2014 - Phoenix, Arizona.

I had a "God Moment".  Have you ever had one of those?  God shows up in some way, in some place,  or through some person;  you know without a doubt that He showed up and it was specifically meant for you?

This happened to me.

It was Friday morning at GYC (Generation. Youth. Christ.), and I was slow to roll out of bed - hitting the snooze button one too many times.  I skipped breakfast, the thought of eating food made me nauseated.  I slowly pulled it together putting one foot in front of the other making my way to the convention center.   Thankfully, my friends had saved me a seat in the auditorium.  I sat through the meeting distracted, the minutes passed slowly.  Everything seemed to go in one ear and out of the other.  It was hard to focus.  My vision and purpose seemed so clouded.  My thoughts screamed, "Lord, what am I doing here...?"   Silence.  Disappointment radiated from every fiber of my body.  The thought of heading back to the hotel to sleep was so tempting.

At the close of the morning devotion, I thought I'd quickly make my way to the exit and dash for the hotel.

Nope.

You see I had been attending Sebastien Braxton's seminar session since the beginning.  The messages were amazing, but I thought I'd be okay to miss one.  Then I felt a tug at my heart and my arm that urged me to go.  God tugging at my heart and Tia tugging at my arm.

"Great," I thought, "So much for sneaking out quietly."

As I made my way down to the seminar room, I was silently praying that I wouldn't waste another hour being distracted with racing thoughts in a lecture room.  "Lord, you've got to help me out here," I screamed from the deepest part of my soul.

Then Sebastien preached this sermon. . .

Cross-Check: Cross Fire

"God, why didn't you come through for me?"  Quietly from the core part of my being the next phrase resonated, "I didn't come through for you in this way because I'm coming through for you in a better way later."

Mercy.

"There is someone here this morning...," Sebastien spoke from the pulpit.  "Yes, it's me," my thoughts shouted.

Go up to the top of Pisgah, and lift your eyes toward the west, the north, the south, and the east; behold it with your eyes, for you shall not cross over this Jordan.
Deuteronomy 3:27

Thank you God for showing up.  Showing up exactly at the moment I needed you the most.

We all go through disappointments, struggles, and challenges.  Everything happens with a more intricate design/plan than anything we could have dreamed up on our own.  Every little or big thing that happens teaches us something about God, ourselves and others.  The reason -- we may not always understand immediately -- but God always reveals it some where along the road.  The key is to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

"Sometimes God has to disappoint us in one way so that He can surprise us in another way later."

"Here we are crying over spilled milk that God can clean up."

God is always there to help us pick ourselves back up.  We have to keep our faith and trust in Him, and He will guide our path to the exact place we need to be.  After all, He knows our hearts the best.

I pray you enjoy this sermon as much as I did.

Until next time!

It's All About People

In May of 2009 I was introduced to the phrase "It's all about people," by my now good friend Micheal Goetz, who was pastoring a church in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.  I remember sitting in the congregation of the church that Sabbath, and designated in the bulletin was a section called, "It's All About People".  I thought to myself, "Hmm, that is different."  Little did I know that this short, yet profound phrase would impact and change the rest of my life.

Today, I stumbled upon his sermon titled, "It's all about people."  I was so thankful to listen to it again and reflect on my life; where I've come from, where I've been, where I'm going, who I've blessed, who I've not, and seeking Him to find my purpose.  I am so grateful that I am the apple of God's eye!  He blesses me, not because I deserve it, but because I am chosen and hand picked by Him.  In return His blessings flow through me to the entire world.

"Christ has shown that our neighbor does not mean merely one of the church or faith to which we belong.  It has no reference to race, color, or class distinction.  Our neighbor is every soul who needs our help.  Our neighbor is every soul who is wounded and bruised by the adversary.  Our neighbor is every one who is the property of God."   (Desire of Ages, p. 503)

Here is the link (below) to his sermon.  I urge you to listen to it, you will not regret it.  He does a much better job of explaining, "It's all about people" than I ever could.

It's All About People  - Pastor Micheal Goetz

I don't know about you but I want to see people differently.  This article (see link below) was a hard and fast reminder that behind every decision we make there is a host of angels placing us in that house, or in that job, or in that place that God needs us.  Our lives are filled with far less happenstances or meaningless decisions than we think.

Below is a different sermon also titled, "It's All About People".  I added it as an extra pearl and encourage you to listen to this one as well.   Glory to God for giving Micheal these sermons!

It's All About People - Pastor Micheal Goetz - Sermon 2

I am beyond blessed for the good people that God has placed in my life.  Their constant influence, support, and objective guidance is truly priceless.  You see, there is never a question of whether or not you will be influenced, that is inevitable, the question is what influences will you allow into your life?

The Night You Were Chosen

Have you ever wondered what it was like the night you were conceived?  I hadn't either, until I came across a stunning description that biologists on the campus of Andrews University assured me is true for all of us.  Your parents came together -- whether they stayed together, ever really got together, or were strangers doesn't change this incredible scenario for any of us -- and father deposited half a billion tiny male reproductive cells, or sperm, inside mother.  That's right -- 500,000,000 sperm, each with the solitary mission to find the single ovum, mother's egg, and penetrate it.  And only one of those sperm could make you you -- which meant that it had to "out swim" the 499,999,999 other sperm in that race for life!

In the words of Anthony DeStefano: "Half a billion potential human beings, each one completely different from you, could have been born in the place of you had not that one, unique sperm cell fertilized that one, unique ovum.  In a very real sense, half a billion other potential human beings had to forgo life to make way for you."  And then comes his stunning conclusion: "From a strictly statistical point of view, your presence on this planet is a miracle.  At the very dawn of your life you had to overcome overwhelming odds -- odds higher than any you will ever have to face in any other situation.  No matter what you may think of yourself now, ... no matter what ills may befall you in life, no matter what suffering you may be forced to endure, no matter what family or money problems you may eventually have to face, it is imperative that you understand this: You came into this world as a champion" (Ten Prayers God Always Says Yes To, pp. 167, 168).

Do you know why?  Because you were chosen!  It is the shining truth of this new year -- God chose you.  Any other reproductive cell combination, and we'd have gotten your sister instead!  God chose you the night you were conceived.

And He has chosen you now to make this uncharted journey with Him.  " 'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future' " (Jer. 29:11, NIV).  And when the One who chose us before we were born promises to journey with us all the days we live, can you imagine our destination!

-DKN

Pretty profound to think about exactly how "chosen" we are.  Our creator chose us before we were even conceived!  Not only did he chose us, He loved us before we even knew what love was.  Hallelujah!

Last week was GYC's - Generation. Youth. Christ. - annual conference in Phoenix, Arizona.  "At The Cross" was the theme - and the few things that I left with were this:

Lean Hard.   Lean hard on God.  Give Him my whole life - trust without a doubt that He is carrying my future.  Deny myself, submit all to Him because Jesus denied Himself for me.

As I enter this new year I will be more intentional about leaning hard.  Leaning hard on God; the creator and Savior that promises to never let me fall.

Hallelujah!

As I was looking over my photos from GYC, I realized I didn't take many at all...
